WIN Waste Innovations appreciates the loyalty of our customers. Our team strives to provide value, safely and consistently every day through superior product and service offerings. Fuel, environmental and regulatory costs are uncontrollable expenses incurred as part of servicing our customers’ waste and recycling needs. The charges and fees included on your invoice help us to partially recover our direct and indirect costs of operation and to achieve an acceptable profit margin. The information below will assist in understanding the charges and fees you may see on your invoice.

Fuel Charge

The fuel charge is intended to recover a portion of the direct and indirect fuel costs incurred in operating our business. The fuel charge is a recurring monthly charge calculated on a per ton or percentage basis depending on line of business. For the collections line of business, the fuel charge will be calculated using the previous month’s per gallon diesel price as published by the Energy Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy ("EIA/DOE") in its Weekly Retail On-Highway Diesel Prices Index for New England (PADD 1A). The fuel charge is not based on the fuel costs of a specific customer. The charge is not a tax or fee imposed by a municipality, government or regulatory agency. The charge, table, and calculation may be changed at our discretion.

Environmental Charge

The environmental charge is intended to recover a portion of the direct and indirect costs of operating our business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in an exceedingly safe and environmentally responsible manner. Such environmental costs include, without limitation, environmentally responsible operation of WtE facilities, landfills, transfer stations and collections vehicles, engineering, construction, and installation of environmental control projects and equipment, the disposal of leachate at our landfills, and tires, batteries, oils and fluids and the monitoring and management of emissions. We are proud to adhere to some of the strictest, safest and most environmentally sensitive standards in our industry, and each year we assess the environmental costs incurred by our efforts to work within these standards. We absorb the majority of the direct and indirect costs incurred to be an industry leader in environmental safety but pass through a portion to the customer. It is not a tax, surcharge, or fee mandated by or remitted to any governmental, or regulatory agency. The amount of the fee is not specifically tied to costs to service any specific customer and is subject to change at our discretion. For the collections line of business, the environmental charge is a fixed percentage of all invoice charges except taxes and the fuel charge.
