If you’ve noticed a single truck collecting both trash and recycling on your route, you’re seeing an innovation in waste management designed for efficiency and sustainability. These aren’t ordinary waste trucks—they’re split-bodied collection vehicles engineered to keep waste and recyclables completely separate while reducing environmental impact.

How Split-Bodied Trucks Work
Each truck contains two distinct compartments:
- Trash Compartment: Household waste is placed in one section and transported to a local WIN Waste Innovations waste-to-energy facility, where it’s converted into renewable energy.
- Recycling Compartment: Recyclables go into the other section and are delivered to a WIN Waste materials recycling facility (MRF). There, the materials are sorted, bundled, and prepared to become new products.
This dual-compartment system ensures that trash and recyclables never mix, while streamlining collection.
Why This Matters
Using one truck instead of two offers significant benefits:
- Improved Efficiency: Faster service and fewer delays.
- Reduced Neighborhood Traffic: Fewer trucks means less congestion in your neighborhood.
- Lower Emissions: A smaller carbon footprint thanks to fewer trips.
This approach aligns with our commitment to sustainability at every step of our operations and helps us serve communities more effectively.
How You Can Help
To keep the process smooth and safe:
- Flatten and consolidate cardboard into pieces about 2 feet by 2 feet for easier loading.
- Place all waste inside your tote to maintain cleanliness and safety.
